UX designer leading the app design from conception, research, to delivery.
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs, determining information architecture, and responsive design.
The Goal
Design an app and desktop platform for users to learn how to do their makeup.
Target Audience
Made For You targets customers who want to learn more about the beauty community regardless of age and gender.
Key Challenges
Designing an app for a heavily saturated beauty community and target market.
User Research Summary
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research were people were at home who wanted to learn more about the beauty world from the comfort of their own home. The age and demographics spanned across a large range, so this platform is built with everyone in mind.
Three Key Stressors
Based on the research, there were 3 main stressors that users faced during this time. Their concerns were about:
Working adults are too busy to spend time to go in store to learn how to do makeup.
People who are social distancing and want to learn from the comfort of their own home.
People from all around the world who still wanted to watch other languages and understand their own language.
Wireframes + LoFi
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research.
User Testing Results
Want a filter when searching up videos and product features.
Wants even more language Close Caption options.
Need better customization options when using the app (ie. more languages, different text size, etc).
Accessibility considerations
Provided access to users who are vision impaired through adding alt text to images for screen readers.
Used icons to help make navigation easier.
Used detailed imagery for artwork and description to help all users better understand the pieces of work.
Impact:
The app makes users feel like Made For You really thinks about how to meet their needs.
Next Steps:
Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.
